Names have started going round amid reports that Super Eagles Coach Stephen Keshi has made up his mind to resign from his position as Nigeria’s national team manager despite minister of Sports Dr. Tammy Danagogo having waded into the crisis between him and the embattled Nigeria Football Federation.
Supersports reports that the coach who led Nigeria to the 2014 World Cup and became the first Nigerian coach to lead the Eagles to the Knockout stages of the mundial has even confirmed the approach of the South African FA.
South Africa Football Association (SAFA) would wish to employ the charismatic coach ahead of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers which begin in September.
Incidentally African champions, Nigeria will face South Africa in the final rounds of qualifiers for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations on September 10 (at home) and November 19, 2014 (away).
“The South Africa Football Association has been very vocal about their intentions to have me as their next national team,” Keshi said.
“I am done. I have finished my assignment with the team. I have had enough of all the politics and games and intrigues of handling the national team.”
South Africa did not qualify for the 2014 World Cup but SAFA have its eyes firmly on the 2018 finals to be hosted by Russia.
