Eguavoen positive despite Eagles defeat

Eguavoen positive despite Eagles defeat

The former national team head coach believes Stephen Keshi’s men defeat to Jurgen Klinsmann’s side will enable them regroup before the kickoff of the 2014 Fifa World Cup Brazil
Former Nigeria coach Austin Eguavoen has described as satisfactory the performance of the Super Eagles against the United States of America in Saturday’s international friendly.

Jozy Altidore struck in either half as the Yanks secured a comfortable victory in their final World Cup warm-up, with a late penalty from Victor Moses not enough for Stephen Keshi's Super Eagles to earn a share of the spoils.

Eguavoen, in his post match response feels the defeat is any eye opener for the technical crew and the players towards ensuring they correct their lapses ahead of this year’s World Cup in Brazil.

“ Keshi and his back room staff should take this tape (against USA), watch it keenly with the boys and make them see their mistakes so that they won’t repeat such mistakes when the World Cup starts,” Eguavoen said on AIT.
“The goals that we conceded were just get away goals because they could have been avoided and the game could have ended in a draw which would have been a fair result.
“Anyway, it could have been four nil, five nil or five goals to one but I think 2-1 is still a respectable result. The boys made few mistakes and they should try to work on it,” he concluded.
Nigeria’s defeat to USA was their first lost in their last three games having forced Scotland and Greece to a draw in other pre-World Cup games.
