Germany deserve World Cup glory, believes Ozil

The creative midfielder is eagerly anticipating the upcoming tournament and is hopeful the Nationalelf can go all the way in South America
Arsenal star Mesut Ozil believes Germany deserve to win this summer's World Cup after going without a major trophy for several years, but has acknowledged that Joachim Low's men face a tough task to beat favourites Brazil.

Germany made it to at least the semi-finals at the past three World Cups, but have not won the competition since beating Argentina in the final in 1990.

Consequently, Ozil is determined to help his country to finally regain the game's most prestigious prize.

"Germany deserve to win a World Cup again," the attacking midfielder told Bild. "The entire nation seemingly expects us to win the World Cup.

"We were all still young in 2010 and everybody was surprise that we were that good, but there's plenty of pressure this time around.

"Everything's different now because we have been playing some great football over the past four years.

"But winning the World Cup will be quite difficult. Brazil are the favourites, but we can make history by becoming the first European country to win the title in South America.

"When you get to play at the World Cup, you want to win the tournament, too. And we definitely have the potential to win it."

Germany meet Portugal, Ghana and USA in the group stages this summer.
