'We're going there to win it' - England keeper Hart eyes World Cup glory

The Manchester City goalkeeper insists the squad do not share the low expectations of manyThree Lions fans and is not fazed by jungle heat facing the team in Manaus
Joe Hart insists England are only thinking about winning the World Cup as they prepare for this summer’s tournament.

The Three Lions travel to Brazil with low expectations at home as they look ahead to challenging Group D fixtures against Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica.

Roy Hodgson has included a number of young players in his 23-man squad, and goalkeeper Hart is adamant that England have the quality to go all the way and become world champions for the first time since 1966.

“We’re going there to win it, otherwise there isn’t any point in going there,” Hart told Goal at a Head & Shoulders event in Manchester. “You can’t go with any other mentality.

“I think when it comes to it, the players have our own internal beliefs. We have the belief of the management and belief in each other to go out and perform - and that’s the most important thing.

“We’ve got exciting young players who are getting chances at Premier League sides and playing at the top level. We have some really good talent and hopefully we will use that.

“It’s a World Cup, it was never going to be an easy group. I don’t think you will ever look at a group in a World Cup and say ‘that’s easy’ because everyone has earned the right to be there.”

Hodgson’s side open their campaign against Italy on June 14 in Manaus, in the Amazon jungle, but Hart is not worried by the prospect of playing in searing heat and humidity.

“If you want to play in Brazil, you have to deal with the circumstances,” Hart, 27, added.

“It’s going to be hot and humid, that’s what it is. It will be the same for Italy. If you gave me the option of playing in the humidity or not playing at all, I would take the humidity.”
