Martins’ Eagles Snub Shocks Sounders' Coach

Seattle Sounders coach Sigi Schmid says he is surprised he hasn’t heard from the Nigerian Football Federation regarding a future call-up for his in-form forward Obafemi Martins.
The Nigerian international last featured for the Eagles June last year  when they forced the Harambee Stars of Kenya to a 1-1 draw in Calabar. Has three goals and four assists in eight appearances so far this term in the MLS.

“Oba and I talked about it the other day, and there really hasn’t been any contact. I’m sure their coach has his ideas … but as of yet, there’s been no talk on Oba,” Schmid told  seattletimes.com.

Martins’ goal against Colorado Rapids last Saturday at CenturyLink Field has been nominated amongst the top five goals of the week.

Martins became the second Seattle Sounders player to claim the MLS Goal of the Week award this season after narrowly beating out Real Salt Lake’s Ned Grabavoy will jostle for the top prize alongside New York Red Bull’s Bradley Wright-Phillips, Sebastian Fernandez’s  Vancouver Whitecaps’, Mauro Diaz from FC Dallas and Alvaro Saborio of Real Salt Lake.
