Martins Claims Goal Of The Week Award


Forgotten Super Eagles star Obafemi Martins' game-winning chip in Seattle Sounders' 2-1 win against Chivas USA penultimate weekend has been voted the goal of the week in the Major League Soccer.

Martins has thus become the second Seattle Sounders player to claim the AT&T MLS Goal of the Week award this season after narrowly beating out Real Salt Lake's Ned Grabavoy.



 Martins earned a little more than 32 percent of the vote for his game-winning goal,a total that was a few percentage points more than what Grabavoy claimed for his decisive tally in RSL's 1-0 triumph against the Portland Timbers.



Martins joins Clint Dempsey as Sounders players to win the AT&T MLS Goal of the Week accolade this year.



Meanwhile Martins was on song again for Sounders at the weekend,scoring the fourth goal in a 4-1 demolition of Colorado Rapids.



The Nigerian who is not expected to make the Super Eagles World up squad list inspite of his impressive displays since the start of the MLS scored the final goal of the game in the in the 75th minute, to cap-off an impressive performance by the hosts inside the CenturyLink Field.



The result moved Seattle to the top of the Western Conference with 16 points from eight games.
