Iroha: Eagles Should Pup W/Cup First

Former Nigeria international, Benedict Iroha has urged the Super Eagles to focus attention on the coming 2014 FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil rather than the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers slated to commence in September.

Iroha spoke from his base in the United States of America, USA Monday on the 2015 AFCON qualifying draws as released by CAF on Sunday.

The draw held in Cairo, Egypt logged the Super Eagles in group A alongside South Africa, Sudan and winners of the preliminary round games between Namibia/Congo Brazzaville and Libya/Rwanda.

“I don’t want to talk about the strength or weakness of the teams in our group at the moment because I believe that’s not important for now”, starts Iroha who was part of the Super Eagles during the 1994 World Cup finals in USA.

“What should occupy our minds and attention for now is the World Cup finals coming up in Brazil in two months from now.

“The 2015 AFCON qualifier is still a long way to come, especially as it starts two months after the conclusion of the World Cup in Brazil.

“So, how the Eagles should prepare in order to excel at the World Cup is more important now than the AFCON qualifiers and I’m sure the NFF is aware of this.

“I’m not saying that AFCON is not important but what I mean is that it’s not yet time to begin to talk about how we’ll qualify for it when the World Cup is at hand.

“First thing first, and I believe the World Cup in Brazil is what both the NFF and Super Eagles coaches should occupy their minds with now rather than the AFCON qualifiers”, Iroha stressed.
