FIFA RANKING EXCITES IGESUND

--South African coach targets top 20 in world ranking
Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund has welcomed news of his team moving up the Fifa rankings, and said that he wanted the team to be among the top 20 in the world.

Igesund said it was about time this happened and said it augured well for the upcoming 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers draw.

Bafana are now 54th – from 62nd – in the global standings, and the team is 10th in Africa.
Igesund said his aim was to see Bafana in the top three on the continent and one of the best 20 teams in the world.

“These rankings will help us in the draw and we have to be one of the top-seeded teams. We don’t want to play top teams and everybody is trying to avoid one another. But we are happy with the progress we have made and hopefully we can improve on our ranking again next month,” he said.

He reiterated his stance that Bafana should take all the games, particularly the ongoing African Nations Championship (Chan) seriously as they would count in the rankings.

“Before we came here, people were saying this was a small tournament and it would be a waste of time, but that is not the case any more. All the results count and we have to give a good account of ourselves.”
